A keen yachtsman and existing investment client, asked us to help with a significant personal and commercial project.
He had always wanted to design and commission his own sailing boat. But, as you might expect, this is not an everyday or straightforward process.
We divided the scope between design and administration, with the client taking full responsibility for dealing with the shipyard in Holland whilst we coordinated the finance, tax (including some interesting VAT rules), structuring (we eventually registered the vessel in Malta) and legal work.
Part of this was to find a lawyer who spoke both Dutch and English, was an expert in maritime law, and knew the shipyard. We found the perfect individual who not only delivered the legal work on time, but also under budget.
